Insourcing Vs. Outsourcing Translation pt. 3

Hi, everyone, and welcome to three questions with MotionPoint. I am your host, Dominic Ditherbine, and today I'm lucky enough to meet with Ashley Aramezelli, our director of solutions engineering. Ashley, how are you you doing?

Well done. Thanks for having me. Thanks for having me on the new set. It looks great.

No. I mean, I appreciate it. I love that you're here. We're debuting the new set here for the for the series of the show. And today, we're gonna be talking about the localization maturity curve and the technologies associated with website translation, especially when you wanna outsource the first time.

So, Ash, my question for you is, at what point in the localization maturity curve does it make the most sense to start outsourcing translation in one?

Sure. So that’s gonna be in a phase called the manual phase.

And that's part when a company actually has made the decision or validated, the decision to enter into or expand into a new market. So that company may not have prior experience translating content in the past, and they'll lean on a vendor or a partner to gain learnings about how translation is done and the specific workflows associated with it.

I mean, that that makes total sense. Right? At the beginning, you want a little bit of subject matter expertise. You want a little bit of, you know, of hand holding because quite frankly, we all know translation is much more complex than it might seem at the beginning. So, you know, Ash, you're director of solutions engineering. Like, you deal with technology all the time. What are the different types of technologies that people can use in order to outsource translation?

Certainly. So there's various technologies available. The first being proxy technology, where a platform residing is residing in between end users and the system that is housing or hosting the origin content. So that platform functions very much like an intermediary.

You also have translation integrations.

So whether that integration is a custom API setup or a translation connector, where translation connectors are integrations that have been specifically designed for a system.

You also have translation management systems and multilingual capable content management systems. And that's where users will actually log into that system and translate contact with them.

Well, that that that might be a little bit too much for me, Ash. But just to reduce the the the technical complexity of this, I I would ask you, if I wanted to do something effortless or with the least amount of work, what technology would I wanna go with first?

Absolutely.

Ultimately, that's gonna be dependent on where your company resides on that maturity curve. So if you're within that manual phase, maybe lower on the curve, it's gonna make sense to leverage technology such as the proxy that I mentioned.

In that instance, you’ll And and why is that that?

Sure. Sure. Sure. So the reason for that is you're gonna be, working with an experienced partner vendor who's been doing that type of work for potentially decades. You'll be able to lean on them to get information on how workflows operate, how to translate content the most efficiently and most cost effectively. And as you mature in that curve and become more flexible, become more agile, it may make sense at a certain point in time to think about insourcing specific translation platforms.

At the beginning, it makes sense to use proxy translation to get the most leverage from your team and use the expertise that you learned from these partners in order to develop further along the vocalization that you're in ization maturity curve.
